Ara macao
The scarlet macaw, scientifically known as Ara macao, is a species of psittaciformes bird in the family Psittacidae, native to Central and South America. With its stunning red, blue and yellow plumage, the scarlet macaw is one of the most colorful and striking birds in the world.

This macaw has a considerable size, with a length that can reach up to 97 centimeters from the tip of the beak to the tail. Its deep red plumage covers much of its body, with a patch of bright blue feathers on its wings and a long blue-green tail. In addition, it has a yellow stripe at the base of the wings and on the underside of the tail, which contrasts vividly with the dominant red.

These birds are known to be very sociable and communicative, forming strong bonds with their partners and flocks. They are highly vocal, making a variety of sounds including shrill cries, screeches and squawks, especially during flight and social interaction.

The scarlet macaw inhabits a variety of habitats, ranging from tropical rainforests and humid forests to semi-open areas and jungle edges. They are omnivores and feed mainly on fruits, seeds, nuts and flowers, but they can also consume insects and small invertebrates.

Unfortunately, the scarlet macaw faces significant threats due to habitat loss, trapping for the pet trade, and illegal hunting. As a result, it is classified as near threatened by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Several conservation efforts are underway to protect this species and its habitat, including captive breeding programs and the creation of protected areas.
