Lambeosaurus lambei, a species of herbivorous dinosaur in the Hadrosauridae family that lived during the Late Cretaceous period, approximately 75 to 70 million years ago, in what is now North America.
This dinosaur was characterized by its distinctive hatchet-shaped bony crest, which extended backwards from the top of its skull. This crest varied in size and shape across Lambeosaurus species, but was generally crescent- or fan-shaped. It is believed that this crest had several functions, such as visual communication between individuals of the same species and temperature regulation.
Lambeosaurus had a large and heavy body, reaching lengths of up to 9 meters and weighing around 4 to 5 tons. It had robust hind legs that allowed it to move on both two and four legs, giving it versatility in its locomotion. Their front limbs were shorter and adapted for gathering and handling food.
As a member of the group of dinosaurs known as duck-billed dinosaurs or hadrosaurids, Lambeosaurus ate primarily of plants, and its shovel-shaped beak allowed it to cut vegetation and tree leaves for food.
