Pentaceratops sternbergii, a herbivorous dinosaur that lived during the late Cretaceous period, approximately 75 million years ago. It was a member of the Ceratopsidae family and belonged to the group of ceratopsids, known for their distinctive horns and head crests.
The most distinctive thing about Pentaceratops was its impressive fan-shaped crest that extended from the back of its skull. This crest was made up of fused bones and adorned with bumps and ridges. In addition to its crest, Pentaceratops had two large horns above its eyes and a longer horn on its nose, giving it a unique and imposing appearance.
With a massive and stocky body, Pentaceratops had four strong legs that allowed it to move with relative agility despite its size. It reached a length of around 6 meters and could weigh several tons. Its mouth was equipped with a horny beak that it used to tear up vegetation, such as ferns and conifers, which were common in its habitat.
Pentaceratops are believed to have lived in herds and spent most of their time foraging on the vast plains of what is now North America. Like other ceratopsians, it had bony armor on its back in the form of plates and spines, which probably served as a defense against predators and as a display item to attract potential mates.
