Tsintaosaurus (T. spinorhinus "Tsintao lizard") is a genus of herbivorous hadrosaurid dinosaur that lived in the Campanian and Maastrichtian of the Late Cretaceous period, approximately 70 million years ago, in what is now China.
The Tsintaosaurus had a length of up to 10 meters and a weight of around 2.5 tons, making it one of the largest known ornithopods. It had a large, rounded head, with a crest on top of its skull, which is thought to have been used to communicate with other members of its species. In addition, it had knife-shaped teeth, which allowed it to cut through tough vegetation.
One of the most distinctive features of the Tsintaosaurus is its front legs, which were shorter than the hind legs. It is believed that this was because the dinosaur had a bipedal posture and needed to balance on its hind legs to feed on the highest leaves on the trees.
In addition, it is known that the Tsintaosaurus had a long, stiff tail that helped it maintain its balance while walking. Unlike many other herbivorous dinosaurs, Tsintaosaurus had a relatively large brain relative to its body size. This suggests that it was an intelligent animal and capable of making complex decisions.
The Tsintaosaurus is believed to have lived in herds and fed on a variety of plants, including leaves, twigs, and fruit. It was preyed on by various predators, including the Tyrannosaurus rex, which also lived at the same time and place.
The Model Pose represents a walking Tsintaosaurus specimen.
