Agalychnis callidryas (Red-eyed tree frog)
Agalychnis callidryas, commonly known as the red-eyed tree frog, is a species of amphibian characterized by its vibrant and striking appearance. This frog has a slender body that can measure between 5 and 7 cm in length. Its coloration is mainly bright green, allowing it to camouflage itself among the leaves of trees during the day. However, its most impressive features are its large, deep red eyes, which stand out dramatically against its body.

In addition to its red eyes, this frog has colorful details on its skin: the sides of its body usually have blue or purple stripes with white or yellow lines, while its legs, especially the hind legs, are a deep orange or red color. Its fingers are long and equipped with adhesive discs that allow it to easily climb leaves and branches.

The Agalychnis callidryas is nocturnal, meaning it spends the day motionless, attached to the leaves of trees, and becomes active at night to hunt. Its diet consists mainly of insects, such as crickets and flies, although it can feed on other small invertebrates. At the reproductive level, this frog usually lays its eggs on leaves that are found over bodies of water. When the tadpoles hatch, they fall into the water where they continue their development.

It lives in the tropical forests of Central America, from Mexico to Panama. Its natural habitat is in humid forests near bodies of water, where humidity is high and vegetation is abundant. The Agalychnis callidryas is an emblematic species of tropical regions, and its colorful appearance has made it one of the most photographed and recognized frogs in the world.
