Jaguar / Black Caiman

The howler monkey is a primate belonging to the Atelidae family and the Alouatta genus. They are found in the jungles and tropical forests of Central and South America. They are known for their distinctive vocal call, which resembles a loud howl and can be heard for a great distance.

Howler monkeys vary in size by species, but are generally medium to large in size compared to other primates. They have stout, furry bodies, strong limbs, and a long, muscular prehensile tail that helps them move agilely among tree branches.

The howler monkey is characterized by its thick and woolly fur, which varies in color depending on the species, and can be black, red, brown or gold. His face has a distinctive appearance, with a prominent chin and large dark eyes. Some species of howler monkey have a bony crest on top of their skull, which makes them look even more striking.

They are herbivorous animals and their diet is based mainly on leaves, buds, fruits and flowers. Because their diet consists mostly of plant matter of low nutritional quality, they have a specialized digestive system that allows them to ferment and break down food more efficiently.

Howler monkeys typically live in social groups called troops, led by a dominant male. These groups can be composed of several females and their young. They communicate their position and demarcate their territory through their distinctive vocal calls, which can be heard several kilometers away.

The howler monkey plays an important role in forest ecosystems, since it disperses the seeds of the fruits it eats, helping the regeneration of forests. Furthermore, their vocal call is characteristic of the sounds of the rainforest and is a reminder of the rich biodiversity of these habitats.
