Hesperonychus elizabethae is a species of dromaeosaurid theropod dinosaur that lived in what is now North America during the Cretaceous period, approximately 75 to 70 million years ago during the Campanian. Discovered in Alberta, Canada, it was named after paleontologist Elizabeth Nicholls.
This dinosaur is notable for its small size, being one of the smallest known dromaeosaurids, with an estimated length of about 100 centimeters and a weight of around 2 kilograms. Despite its diminutive size, Hesperonychus was an agile and active predator, with curved claws on its feet that it probably used to capture small prey.
Hesperonychus elizabethae is believed to have been a terrestrial hunter and probably lived in wooded or semi-open environments. Its elongated skull and jaws full of sharp teeth suggest that it fed primarily on insects, small vertebrates, and possibly even the eggs of other dinosaurs.
