Iguanodon bernissartensis

Iguanodon bernissartensis is a species of ornithopod dinosaur that lived during the Early Cretaceous period, approximately 125 million years ago. This herbivorous dinosaur was one of the first dinosaurs to be discovered and named, playing a crucial role in the development of paleontology.

Known for its impressive size and distinctive nasal crest, Iguanodon was first discovered in Belgium in 1878 by coal miners. These fossil remains, which included complete skeletons, provided scientists with detailed insight into the anatomy and behavior of these dinosaurs.

Iguanodon had a robust build, with long, powerful hind legs adapted for bipedal locomotion, while its front legs were shorter and could be used for both walking and feeding. It is believed that this species spent most of its time on land, feeding on low plants and shrubs.

Its distinctive nasal crest, similar to a parrot's beak, suggests that Iguanodon could have had a highly developed sense of smell or that it could have been used for communication between individuals of the same species. Additionally, it has been speculated that this crest could have been involved in thermoregulation or even display during the mating season.

One of the most famous Iguanodon finds occurred in Bernissart, Belgium, where more than 30 fossilized skeletons were discovered in a coal mine. These fossils provided paleontologists with unprecedented insight into the anatomy and behavior of these dinosaurs, as well as information about their social structure and feeding habits.

Incredible museum-quality replicas with a high degree of scientific rigor, in which Computed Tomography of real fossils has been used in addition to an exhaustive paleontological study to create these magnificent models.
