Torosaurus latus

Torosaurus latus is a ceratopsid dinosaur that lived during the Late Cretaceous period, around 68-66 million years ago. It belongs to the group of ceratopsids, which were characterized by having large bony crests on the back of the skull and large horns over the eyes. The Torosaurus is distinguished by its enormous size, measuring up to 8.8 meters long and weighing several tons. Its skull is one of the largest known in the animal kingdom, reaching lengths of up to 2.7 meters. The most distinctive feature of the Torosaurus is its large bony crest, which extends back from the skull and forms a kind of shield over the neck. This crest probably had both visual display and thermal regulation functions.

Like other ceratopsids, Torosaurus latus was a herbivore, and its diet consisted mainly of fibrous plants and ferns. It is believed that they would have lived in herds and may have defended territories during the mating season.

Despite its imposing size and distinctive appearance, Torosaurus latus is a little-known dinosaur compared to other members of its family, such as Triceratops. Much of what is known about this dinosaur comes from fragmentary fossils, making reconstructing its appearance and behavior a challenge for paleontologists.
