Dilophosaurus (D. wetherilli, "Two-crested lizard") is a genus of coelophysid theropod dinosaur that lived during the Sinemurian and Pliensbachian Age of the Early Jurassic, approximately 193 to 183 million years ago.
The Dilophosaurus was a medium-sized bipedal predator, with a length of about 6-7 meters in length and a weight of around 400 kilograms, and the findings suggest that it could hunt in groups.
Dilophosaurus had a distinctive skull with two semicircular thin bony ridges running the length of the skull, probably for display purposes and giving it a unique appearance, large eyes and a strong jaw, allowing it to feed on large prey like other herbivorous dinosaurs. It is also believed that it had significant agility and speed for hunting and escaping predators.
Although popularized in the movie "Jurassic Park," in reality there is no evidence that Dilophosaurus had a venom-spitting ability or a fan-shaped crest. Dilophosaurus fossils have been found to bear tooth marks from other theropod dinosaurs, suggesting that they engaged in fights and territorial clashes.
