Gorgosaurus is a genus of theropod dinosaur that lived during the Late Cretaceous period, approximately 76 to 70 million years ago. It belonged to the Tyrannosauridae family, the same family as the famous Tyrannosaurus rex. This carnivorous dinosaur lived in what is now North America, specifically in what is now Canada and the United States.
Physically, Gorgosaurus shared many characteristics with other tyrannosaurids. It had a large, robust skull, with curved, serrated teeth designed to tear flesh. Its hind legs were powerful and allowed it to move quickly, making it an agile predator. Although it had small arms compared to its overall size, they were still strong and had sharp claws. They could measure up to 9 meters and weigh around 3000 kilos.
The name "Gorgosaurus" means "fierce lizard," and this name is appropriate given its position in the food chain as a predator. Gorgosaurus is believed to have hunted herbivorous dinosaurs, such as the hadrosaur and ceratopsian, using its powerful jaw and hunting skills.
