Product details
Gryposaurus was a genus of saurolophine hadrosaurid ornithopod dinosaurs from the Late Cretaceous of North America, known from numerous remains found mainly in Canada and the United States. It lived approximately 80–75 million years ago, during the Campanian, although material historically attributed to the genus has occasionally extended this range. It was described by Lawrence Lambe in 1914, and its name means “hook-nosed lizard”, referring to the prominent arched nasal structure that represents one of its most distinctive features. The genus is especially well represented by skeletons and skulls from Alberta, Montana and Utah, making it one of the best-known North American hadrosaurids.
Taxonomically, Gryposaurus belongs to Hadrosauridae and, within this family, to Saurolophinae, the group traditionally referred to as non-crested or solid-crested hadrosaurines. Unlike lambeosaurines such as Corythosaurus or Lambeosaurus, Gryposaurus did not develop a large hollow cranial crest. Its most characteristic ornamentation was formed by the nasal bones, which rose above the snout to create an arched or convex prominence immediately in front of the orbits. This structure gave the animal an easily recognisable cranial profile and probably served functions related to visual recognition, social communication or sexual selection.
Several species are currently recognised within the genus, including Gryposaurus notabilis, the type species from Alberta; Gryposaurus latidens, known mainly from Montana; and Gryposaurus monumentensis, from southern Utah. These species share the characteristic nasal arch, although differences exist in skull proportions, snout morphology and the configuration of the nasal and maxillary bones. Morphological analyses show that G. notabilis, G. latidens and G. monumentensis occupy closely related but distinguishable positions within saurolophine morphospace, supporting genuine species-level diversity within the genus.
From a morphometric perspective, Gryposaurus was a large hadrosaurid. Adults are generally reconstructed at approximately 8–10 metres in body length, with some large individuals possibly approaching the upper end of this range. The Natural History Museum uses an approximate length of 10 metres for the genus. Hip height probably reached around 2.5–3 metres in the largest individuals, with a body mass of several tonnes. As with other hadrosaurids, exact figures depend on the species, age of the individual and reconstruction method used.
The body of Gryposaurus was robust but adapted for efficient locomotion. The hind limbs were long and powerful, while the forelimbs were shorter but strong enough to support part of the body weight. This indicates facultative bipedal and quadrupedal locomotion: during feeding and slow movement it could walk on all four limbs, while it probably adopted a bipedal posture during faster locomotion. The tail was long, deep and muscular, functioning as a counterbalance during movement.
The skull was elongated and relatively low, ending anteriorly in a broad, toothless keratinous beak. Immediately behind the beak was a complex dental battery containing hundreds of teeth arranged in columns, only a fraction of which were functional at any one time. Continuous replacement of these teeth created extremely efficient grinding surfaces capable of cutting and crushing large quantities of plant material. In some hadrosaurids, five or more teeth could be stacked vertically within a single tooth position in the dental battery, one of the major feeding innovations of the group.
As a herbivore, Gryposaurus probably consumed a wide range of plants, including leaves, shoots, twigs, ferns, conifers and angiosperms available in the Campanian ecosystems of North America. Its beak allowed it to crop large quantities of vegetation, while the dental batteries processed the food through complex jaw movements. The combination of large body size, an extensive digestive system and highly specialised dentition made hadrosaurids some of the most efficient herbivores of the Late Cretaceous.
The nasal prominence of Gryposaurus probably also functioned as an important display structure. Although it was not hollow like the crests of lambeosaurines, its prominent position on the face would have made it highly visible between individuals. It may have been covered by keratin or soft tissues that further enhanced its external appearance, although the exact extent of these tissues cannot be determined directly from the fossil record. A rigorous reconstruction should therefore respect the known bony geometry without exaggerating speculative external structures.
Gryposaurus had a considerable geographical distribution across Laramidia, ranging from Alberta in Canada to Utah in the southern United States. This broad latitudinal range is particularly interesting because different species occurred in separate regions during the Campanian. Comparative analyses show that, despite this extensive north–south distribution, the overall anatomical disparity of the genus was relatively moderate, although the species retained sufficient cranial differences to distinguish them.
Its environments consisted of fluvial plains, channels, forests, wetlands and coastal areas near the Western Interior Seaway. Depending on the species and geological formation, Gryposaurus lived alongside ceratopsians, ankylosaurs, other hadrosaurids, small theropods, dromaeosaurids and large tyrannosaurids. As a large herbivore, it probably represented a significant proportion of the biomass in these ecosystems and would have been a potential prey item for the largest contemporary predators.
The presence of different species allows interesting variations to be observed within the same general body plan. Gryposaurus notabilis displays the classic raised nasal prominence and represents the traditional reference for the genus; Gryposaurus latidens has a proportionally broader snout and some relatively primitive cranial characteristics; and Gryposaurus monumentensis is notable for an especially robust and deep skull, with strongly developed nasal and mandibular regions. Therefore, although the species would have shared a very similar overall external silhouette, a rigorous reconstruction should respect these species-specific cranial differences and avoid using a single head model interchangeably for all of them.

Collector's item ; Hyper-realistic replica, highly detailed and with a high degree of scientific precision.
Made to scale, prototyped in resin and with a scenic base in most of the models offered. If you like miniatures, both for collecting and for painting, we offer you a wide variety of scale replicas; All of them related to dinosaurs, extinct prehistoric fauna and current fauna.
So if you love dinosaurs and animals as much as we do, this is your favorite store to collect and paint them :)
We are authorized distributors of all the replicas and figures we offer. We use 3D printers with 8K - 14K resolution, and high-quality resins with additives to improve hardness and flexibility, thus offering replicas of impeccable quality.
Different scales will be used to make the replicas (depending on the size of the species), although we are open to making other suggested scales upon request as long as they fit in our printing trays, for which you will have to contact us via email and request the required size.
Replicas are supplied with the option of airbrush priming in dark grey. If you require another colour, please let us know which one you prefer in the box with special instructions for the seller. Without priming, we do not guarantee that the resin will accept paint.
We also offer the option of choosing a professionally painted replica, which is agreed upon throughout its development with the painter, through a private chat available.
Complete replica (one piece): We supply complete replicas in those models that are small, and models that are medium, large or not very bulky, will have the prerogative of being presented as a complete replica or assembly kit as the case may be.
Complete replicas will be supplied separately from their base.
Replica assembly kit: We supply replicas whose models are large, very large or bulky, only with this option.
The indicated replicas (generally composed of base, head, body and tail) will come prepared for the subsequent assembly that will be required by the client, by sanding, putty, adhesive or technique chosen by the client.
All replicas are thoroughly inspected before shipping and will be carefully packaged to prevent damage during transport.
Information about the models
The poses of the models aim to represent each character in the most scientifically viable way, thus revealing the life and customs of prehistoric and modern fauna.
Each character has its own personality and develops in different life scenarios; birth, adolescence and play, hunting, feeding, fighting, courtship, death and many other scenes from their daily life, always from the creative perspective of their designers.
Handmade
All orders are individually prepared on the cutter for subsequent prototyping, obtaining a resin part that will require post-processing by manual and ultrasonic cleaning, support removal, ultraviolet curing, labeling and packaging.

We are authorized distributors
We offer both our own physical replicas and those that have been modeled by many of the best 3D designers, in order to offer you the greatest possible variety.
