Product details
Iguanodon bernissartensis was a large ornithopod dinosaur from the Early Cretaceous of Europe, exceptionally well known thanks to the numerous skeletons discovered in the coal mines of Bernissart, Belgium. It lived approximately during the late Barremian–early Aptian, around 126–122 million years ago, in humid continental ecosystems composed of floodplains, lagoons, river channels and swampy areas with abundant vegetation. Its specific name refers directly to Bernissart, the locality that yielded some of the most complete and famous dinosaur skeletons ever discovered in Europe.
Historically, Iguanodon was one of the first dinosaurs recognised by science during the nineteenth century and played a fundamental role in the early development of vertebrate palaeontology. However, Iguanodon bernissartensis gained particular importance following the discovery, in 1878, of an extraordinary concentration of skeletons at Bernissart. These specimens made it possible to reconstruct the anatomy of a large ornithopod in unprecedented detail and helped correct earlier misinterpretations, such as the placement of the characteristic thumb spike on the nose.
Taxonomically, Iguanodon bernissartensis belongs to Iguanodontia within Ornithopoda and represents a relatively derived form predating the major radiation of hadrosaurids during the Late Cretaceous. It displayed a combination of primitive and advanced features: a robust body, powerful hind limbs, specialised hands, an anterior keratinous beak and dental batteries capable of efficiently processing vegetation. Its anatomy is particularly important for understanding the evolutionary transition between early iguanodontians and the later “duck-billed” dinosaurs.
From a morphometric perspective, Iguanodon bernissartensis was a large herbivore. Adults could reach approximately 9–10 metres in body length, with some individuals possibly somewhat larger, a hip height of around 2.5–3 metres, and an estimated mass of approximately 4–5 tonnes. Its body was bulky and muscular, with a deep torso, a long and relatively rigid tail, powerful hind limbs and forelimbs robust enough to support part of its weight during quadrupedal locomotion.
Iguanodon bernissartensis was facultatively bipedal and quadrupedal. During slow movement, feeding or certain postures, it could move on all four limbs, while it probably adopted a bipedal stance during faster locomotion. This locomotor flexibility is clearly reflected in its body proportions: the hind limbs were long and powerful, while the forelimbs were also strong and ended in a highly specialised hand.
The hand is one of the most distinctive features of the species. The first digit was transformed into a robust conical spike, commonly known as the “thumb spike”. Its precise function remains uncertain, but it may have been used for defence against predators, intraspecific interaction or possibly even the manipulation of vegetation. The three central digits were adapted to support weight during quadrupedal locomotion and ended in hoof-like ungual structures, while the fifth digit was relatively flexible and may have been used to grasp or pull branches and vegetation closer.
The skull was elongated and relatively narrow, with a toothless keratinous beak at the front of the jaws and numerous teeth positioned further back. These teeth were continuously replaced and formed effective surfaces for cutting and crushing vegetation. Although it did not possess the highly complex dental batteries of later hadrosaurids, Iguanodon already had an advanced feeding apparatus capable of processing tough plant material.
Its diet would have included ferns, horsetails, cycads, conifers, shoots and early angiosperms available in Early Cretaceous ecosystems. Its ability to move both bipedally and quadrupedally, together with the use of the fifth digit to manipulate vegetation, would have allowed it to exploit food resources at different heights. Its large body size would also have favoured prolonged digestion of large quantities of plant matter.
The tail was long, muscular and relatively rigid, acting as a counterbalance during bipedal locomotion. Modern reconstructions no longer use the old upright “kangaroo-like” posture employed in some of the earliest nineteenth-century mounts. Iguanodon normally held its torso in an approximately horizontal position, with the tail elevated above the ground and the vertebral column forming a relatively straight line from the neck to the caudal region.
Iguanodon bernissartensis inhabited vegetation-rich European ecosystems associated with freshwater systems. At Bernissart, its skeletons were found together with fish, turtles, crocodyliforms, amphibians and other organisms indicating a lacustrine or swamp-like environment. The exceptional concentration of Iguanodon individuals has led to several taphonomic hypotheses, including mortality associated with accidents, entrapment or environmental events, although the exact process responsible for the accumulation remains under study.
Its social behaviour cannot be established with certainty either. The presence of numerous individuals at Bernissart may suggest aggregation, but a fossil accumulation alone does not constitute definitive evidence of herd behaviour. Nevertheless, as with other large ornithopods, it is plausible that Iguanodon formed temporary groups associated with feeding, movement or reproduction.

So if you love dinosaurs and animals as much as we do, this is your favorite store to collect and paint them :)
We are authorized distributors of all the replicas and figures we offer. We use 3D printers with 8K - 14K resolution, and high-quality resins with additives to improve hardness and flexibility, thus offering replicas of impeccable quality.
Different scales will be used to make the replicas (depending on the size of the species), although we are open to making other suggested scales upon request as long as they fit in our printing trays, for which you will have to contact us via email and request the required size.
Replicas are supplied with the option of airbrush priming in dark grey. If you require another colour, please let us know which one you prefer in the box with special instructions for the seller. Without priming, we do not guarantee that the resin will accept paint.
We also offer the option of choosing a professionally painted replica, which is agreed upon throughout its development with the painter, through a private chat available.
Complete replica (one piece): We supply complete replicas in those models that are small, and models that are medium, large or not very bulky, will have the prerogative of being presented as a complete replica or assembly kit as the case may be.
Complete replicas will be supplied separately from their base.
Replica assembly kit: We supply replicas whose models are large, very large or bulky, only with this option.
The indicated replicas (generally composed of base, head, body and tail) will come prepared for the subsequent assembly that will be required by the client, by sanding, putty, adhesive or technique chosen by the client.
All replicas are thoroughly inspected before shipping and will be carefully packaged to prevent damage during transport.
Information about the models
The poses of the models aim to represent each character in the most scientifically viable way, thus revealing the life and customs of prehistoric and modern fauna.
Each character has its own personality and develops in different life scenarios; birth, adolescence and play, hunting, feeding, fighting, courtship, death and many other scenes from their daily life, always from the creative perspective of their designers.
Handmade
All orders are individually prepared on the cutter for subsequent prototyping, obtaining a resin part that will require post-processing by manual and ultrasonic cleaning, support removal, ultraviolet curing, labeling and packaging.

We are authorized distributors
We offer both our own physical replicas and those that have been modeled by many of the best 3D designers, in order to offer you the greatest possible variety.
