The body of Mosasaurus hoffmanni was perfectly adapted for aquatic life. It had an elongated and robust skull, with powerful jaws full of sharp, conical teeth, ideal for catching and tearing its prey. Its eyes were large, suggesting it had excellent vision, crucial for hunting in the deep ocean.
Its limbs had transformed into fins: the front ones were larger and stronger, while the rear ones were smaller. These fins, together with a long, flattened caudal fin, provided great maneuverability and speed in the water. The tail of Mosasaurus hoffmanni was shaped like a shark, which gave it extra momentum when swimming.
This marine giant fed on a variety of prey, including fish, squid, other marine reptiles, and even seabirds. Its feeding habits, along with its imposing size, placed it at the top of the food chain in its habitat.
Mosasaurus hoffmanni fossils have been found mainly in Western Europe, especially the Netherlands and Belgium. The first specimen was discovered in the 18th century
