Product details
Propleopus oscillans was an extinct macropodoid from the Pleistocene of Australia, commonly known as the “giant rat-kangaroo.” Although it has sometimes been popularly described as a “carnivorous kangaroo,” this interpretation should be treated with caution: studies of its skull, jaws, and dentition suggest instead a marsupial with a probably omnivorous diet, capable of consuming plant material, hard fruits, fungi, insects, small vertebrates, carrion, or other high-energy resources. Its anatomy places it within the propleopines, a lineage related to living small rat-kangaroos, but with a much larger body size and a far more robust and specialized ecology.
The species was originally named by De Vis in 1888 and was later included within the genus Propleopus, a group reviewed in detail during the 20th century as part of the large fossil rat-kangaroos of Australia. Propleopus oscillans forms part of the Pleistocene megafauna of Australia and is known mainly from craniomandibular remains, teeth, and relatively scarce postcranial material, which explains why some aspects of its biology remain debated. Even so, the available evidence allows it to be reconstructed as a medium-to-large terrestrial marsupial, far more heavily built than living potoroids and clearly distinct from more specialized hopping kangaroos.
From a morphometric perspective, Propleopus oscillans probably reached an approximate body mass of 40 to 70 kilograms, with an estimated body length of around 1.3–1.6 metres and a shoulder or hip height that would vary depending on the reconstructed posture. Unlike large modern macropodids, its locomotion does not appear to have depended exclusively on rapid bipedal hopping. Functional interpretations of its limbs suggest a more quadrupedal or semi-quadrupedal mode of movement, with the ability to move steadily across the ground and possibly with greater involvement of the forelimbs than in the more cursorial living kangaroos. This would have given it a more compact, robust, and low-slung appearance than that of a modern red kangaroo.
One of the most characteristic features of Propleopus oscillans lies in its skull and dentition. Its jaws were powerful, and its teeth show adaptations for cutting, crushing, and processing resistant food items. Comparisons with the living musky rat-kangaroo, Hypsiprymnodon moschatus, have been used to interpret a broad and opportunistic diet, although in Propleopus the entire feeding apparatus appears amplified by its large size. The presence of strong incisors, cutting premolars, and molars capable of processing hard materials has led to hypotheses of a partly carnivorous or omnivorous feeding behaviour, closer to that of a generalist opportunist than to that of a strict grazing herbivore.
Propleopus oscillans inhabited various Australian environments during the Pleistocene, in ecosystems shared with other large marsupials, birds, reptiles, and native carnivores. Its relative rarity in the fossil record and the fragmentary nature of many of its remains make it one of the more enigmatic forms of the Australian megafauna. In life, it would have occupied a distinctive niche: a robust, terrestrial, probably omnivorous macropodoid capable of exploiting diverse resources in a changing landscape shaped by climatic variation, the expansion of open environments, and the presence of other large herbivores and marsupial predators.
This replica represents Propleopus oscillans as a giant rat-kangaroo with powerful anatomy, a compact body, robust limbs, a strong skull, and specialized dentition. Its reconstruction integrates the available information on its morphometry, evolutionary position, and possible ecology, avoiding an exaggerated interpretation as a purely predatory animal and instead presenting an exceptional Pleistocene marsupial: a large opportunistic omnivore adapted to processing a wide variety of resources within the lost ecosystems of prehistoric Australia.

Collector's item ; Hyper-realistic replica, highly detailed and with a high degree of scientific precision.
Made to scale, prototyped in resin and with a scenic base in most of the models offered. If you like miniatures, both for collecting and for painting, we offer you a wide variety of scale replicas; All of them related to dinosaurs, extinct prehistoric fauna and current fauna.
So if you love dinosaurs and animals as much as we do, this is your favorite store to collect and paint them :)
We are authorized distributors of all the replicas and figures we offer. We use 3D printers with 8K - 14K resolution, and high-quality resins with additives to improve hardness and flexibility, thus offering replicas of impeccable quality.
Different scales will be used to make the replicas (depending on the size of the species), although we are open to making other suggested scales upon request as long as they fit in our printing trays, for which you will have to contact us via email and request the required size.
Replicas are supplied with the option of airbrush priming in dark grey. If you require another colour, please let us know which one you prefer in the box with special instructions for the seller. Without priming, we do not guarantee that the resin will accept paint.
We also offer the option of choosing a professionally painted replica, which is agreed upon throughout its development with the painter, through a private chat available.
Complete replica (one piece): We supply complete replicas in those models that are small, and models that are medium, large or not very bulky, will have the prerogative of being presented as a complete replica or assembly kit as the case may be.
Complete replicas will be supplied separately from their base.
Replica assembly kit: We supply replicas whose models are large, very large or bulky, only with this option.
The indicated replicas (generally composed of base, head, body and tail) will come prepared for the subsequent assembly that will be required by the client, by sanding, putty, adhesive or technique chosen by the client.
All replicas are thoroughly inspected before shipping and will be carefully packaged to prevent damage during transport.
Information about the models
The poses of the models aim to represent each character in the most scientifically viable way, thus revealing the life and customs of prehistoric and modern fauna.
Each character has its own personality and develops in different life scenarios; birth, adolescence and play, hunting, feeding, fighting, courtship, death and many other scenes from their daily life, always from the creative perspective of their designers.
Handmade
All orders are individually prepared on the cutter for subsequent prototyping, obtaining a resin part that will require post-processing by manual and ultrasonic cleaning, support removal, ultraviolet curing, labeling and packaging.

We are authorized distributors
We offer both our own physical replicas and those that have been modeled by many of the best 3D designers, in order to offer you the greatest possible variety.
